Our Beliefs and Values

As evangelical Christians, we stand in the tradition of non-conformist protestant Christianity, as traced from the earliest times of the Christian church through the reformation to today.

What we believe

We believe that God has revealed Himself to man through his word, the Bible. By reading and understanding the Bible we come to the knowledge of how we can be re-united with God. We aim to base everything we do and say on the Bible.

We believe that God made the world and that He exists as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that mankind is separated from God because of sin, and that our goal is to be re-united with God by personal faith in Him.

We believe hat God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son Jesus Christ to die in our place on the cross; that He was buried and was raised to life again from the dead by God, three days later.

We believe that Jesus ascended to heaven and is alive today and that He is coming back to earth again to receive all those who have trusted in Him.

We believe that God has sent his Holy Spirit who alone can show us that we are sinners, enable us to turn from sin to faith in Jesus and help us to live like Him. We are part of the world-wide Church which we call the body of Christ.

We believe that Jesus Christ is relevant to people of all ages and background and He is the central theme of all our activities.

Our Values

Bible-centred
We take the Bible seriously and try to put it into practice in our daily lives.
God-dependent
We seek to rely of God rather than our own endeavours
Mission-focused
We seek to share the Gospel within our local community
Perseverance
Despite our frailties, we aim never to give up
Generosity
We endeavour to respond to God's love by being generous to others
Service
We follow Christ's example as the servant king by seeking to be of service with our church and within the local community
Humility
We recognise that all we have comes from God and not through our own merits
Prayerful
We seek to live prayerful lives, acknowledging the sovereignty of God
Gratitude
We are grateful for all that God has given to us.
Welcoming
We welcome all who wish to join us, regardless of background.
Loving
We aim to reflect God's love through our love for others

Communion

We believe that the Holy Spirit himself leads us as we come to worship God. Our Communion Service takes the form of open worship when anyone who knows and loves the Lord Jesus is free to contribute and remember Jesus in sharing bread and wine.

Baptism

Having come to faith in Jesus, many wish to follow the teaching in the Bible and tell others about what has happened to them by being baptised by immersion. Anyone who is interested is encouraged to talk to one of the Elders.

Evangelical Alliance

We ascribe to the Evangelical Alliance's basis of faith which is organised into 11 distinct points:

The Nature of God: Belief in the one true God who lives eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

The Sovereignty of God: God’s love, grace, and sovereignty in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming, and judging the world.

The Bible: The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are the written Word of God—fully trustworthy for faith and conduct.

Human Dignity and Sin: The dignity of all people, made male and female in God’s image, yet corrupted by sin, which incurs divine wrath and judgment.

Jesus Christ: The incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ—born of the virgin Mary, truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.

The Atonement: The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin, defeating evil, and reconciling us with God.

The Resurrection: The bodily resurrection of Christ; His ascension to the Father; and His reign as the only Savior of the world.

Justification: The justification of sinners solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ.

The Holy Spirit: The ministry of the Holy Spirit, who leads to repentance, unites believers with Christ through new birth, and empowers discipleship.

The Church: The Church as the body of Christ, both local and universal, and the "priesthood of all believers"—endowed with the Spirit's gifts to worship and proclaim the gospel.

The Second Coming: The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfill God's purposes, raising all people to judgment, bringing eternal life to the redeemed, and establishing a new heaven and earth.

Our beliefs and values

Explanation: I have endeavoured to encompass in simple language what we believe as a church and the values which shape us.

Help required: The values section is a first draft and could do with some refining. Any suggestions for improvement are welcome.
